What is the Hogrefe Scoring App?
The Hogrefe Scoring App allows you to quickly and automatically score paper-based questionnaires. Simply take a photo of the completed answer sheet and upload it to the app—Hogrefe Scoring will automatically recognize the marked responses. The Verifier lets you manually check and correct any uncertain responses. Once uploaded, you will receive a standardized report within minutes. All reports are clearly listed, easy to review, and exportable.
With its clear and intuitive design, the app guides you through just a few steps from capturing your answer sheet to receiving the final report. Hogrefe Scoring currently processes answer sheets for the MMPI-2™ (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2).
How to Access the Hogrefe Scoring App
To use the Hogrefe Scoring App for automated scoring, you need login credentials from Hogrefe. Please contact your designated sales representative (contact details are provided below). We are happy to assist you with the licensing of your account.
How to Score Tests Using the Hogrefe Scoring App
To use the Hogrefe Scoring App, please contact your designated sales representative (contact details below). You will receive a Hogrefe Scoring App serial number and password.
The app is available in the App Store and Google Play Store. Installation is free—you only pay for scoring.
Getting started: Connecting your Hogrefe Scoring App credentials
- When launching the app, register with your email address.
- You will receive a verification code via email for login.
- Then, connect the app to your Hogrefe Scoring App serial number.
Capturing the answer sheet
Once your account is connected, you can start scanning your answer sheet right away. For optimal recognition, please follow the provided guidelines when taking the photo.
Uploading the answer sheet
After taking the photo, you can review its quality. If the image is blurry or unclear, simply retake it using the “Retake” button.
If satisfied, upload the photo by tapping “Submit”. After a successful upload, you can either scan another answer sheet or proceed to the report overview.
Verification with the Verifier
A few minutes after uploading your answer sheet, the “Verify” option will appear in the report list.
When selecting this option, you will see an overview indicating whether the system has confidently recognized all responses or if any fields remain empty. You can choose to review only uncertain/missing responses or all responses.
Selecting “Check uncertain/missing” will show responses that the system could not confidently recognize, including blank or double-marked fields.
To adjust a response, simply tap on the correct answer. Changes will be highlighted in color.
Viewing reports in the app
Once you upload a manually reviewed report, you will be redirected to the report list. A few minutes later, your final report will be available in the app.
The report list displays the status of all uploaded answer sheets. To view a report, tap “Report”. If the scoring was unsuccessful, restart the process by tapping “Error”.
Scoring credits are only deducted for successful evaluations. You can find troubleshooting tips in the app’s Help section and in the FAQ on this page.
Displaying and exporting reports
The report is generated based on the automatically recognized, marked, and manually reviewed and completed responses.
Using the “Share” function, you can export the report directly from the app—for example, for storage or forwarding.
Managing the report overview
Personalize your reports by renaming them—this makes it easier to find specific reports.
To rename a report, tap on the “MMPI-2™” title of the desired test to open the text field. Enter the new name and confirm by selecting “Done” or “OK” on your keyboard. Report names can be changed at any time.
After renaming, the search icon will appear next to the “Filter” button, allowing you to use the search function.
Information for new customers
To automatically score paper-based questionnaires from Hogrefe using the Hogrefe Scoring App, you need login credentials. Currently, the Hogrefe Scoring App supports scoring for the MMPI-2™ answer sheet. Your e-Tests sales representative is your contact person for licensing and setting up an account.
The MMPI-2™ answer sheet is available separately through the P&P sales division or online. The article number is 0308904.
How to Get Started with Hogrefe Scoring:
- Register: Contact your sales representative to sign up for the scoring service (contact details below).
- Receive login credentials: You will receive your Hogrefe Scoring App serial number and password.
- Download the app: Install the Hogrefe Scoring App from the App Store or Google Play Store.
- Sign in: Open the app and register with your email address.
- Verify your account: Enter the verification code sent to your email.
- Start scoring: Log in with your Hogrefe Scoring serial number and password and begin automatically scoring your paper-based questionnaires.
FAQ
Currently, the Hogrefe Scoring App supports the automatic analysis of the MMPI-2™ answer sheets (long form with interpretation).
You can find your credentials in the attachment of the email we send you for Hogrefe Scoring. Please note that these credentials are only for the Hogrefe Scoring App.
As forms are not individually marked, we cannot tell whether a form has already been scanned. Therefore, we charge per scan - regardless of whether it is the same or a different form. Please therefore only enter each form once to avoid unnecessary costs. Further information on billing can be found in the next section.
You will be billed quarterly for the successfully generated reports only – you don't have to buy any license points in advance. You only need to register for the Hogrefe Scoring analysis service. Please contact the sales department of your country:
We ensure the security of your data using current technologies and in accordance with the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Your data will be processed exclusively in Göttingen, Germany, and will not leave the European Union.
If you grant us your consent, we will process your personal data collected as part of the Hogrefe Scoring App for the purpose of further developing and optimizing our offer. Your consent is voluntary. You can use the app to its full extent without giving this consent. You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future without giving reasons. If you have given your consent, we use services from Google Analytics to obtain a reliable analysis, for example, in the event of technical problems.
You can delete your result reports individually within the App. These will then also be deleted from our servers. To delete your account with all of its data, please delete the Hogrefe Scoring App from your phone and contact sales department of your country.
Your custom titles will only be saved in the App on the device where you made the changes. Your custom titles will not be synchronised with any other device.
You can activate ‘Skip verification´ in your settings. The visual check is only skipped automatically if the recognition software does not return any uncertain fields. If at least one response is not recognised with certainty, a visual check is always carried out.
In case the processing of your photo results in an error, you can click on "Retake" after tapping on the "Error" message. We only account for successfully generated reports.
You can find tips for successful scanning on the home screen of the App. Please make sure that your photo meets these criteria (enough contrast, no crumpled forms, complete document, ...) and that the whole document is focussed.
Further potential causes of failed processing might be: a poor Internet connection or our services are currently not available. Please try again later.

We've successfully tested the Hogrefe Scoring App on the following smartphone/tablets: Samsung 23 Ultra, Fairphone 4, Samsung Galaxy Tab A7, Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, Infinix Note 30i, Redmi Note 12, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 12, iPad 9, iPad Air 2.
It is possible that there are unique cases where devices are not compatible with the Hogrefe Scoring App. Devices that are not completely compatible with the Hogrefe Scoring App are:

Together with your descriptive result report, we return a picture of the detected answers from your photo so you can compare these with your original form. Please check whether the higlighted empty answers are correct, poorly marked or poorly detected.
Please make sure that there is enough contrast when marking the answers. Note that the circles should be completely filled. We recommend the use of a dark sharpie, ball pen or gel pen. For illustration we added some pictures below.
Please avoid light markings with little contrast as well as markings that are outside the circle. This could lead to incomplete detections and processing errors.
Please avoid markings outside the circle with very light contrast (as depicted here):
To correct an answer, cover the wrong answer with completely with a block and enough contrast. Then mark the correct answer according to the picture depicted below.
When both answer options are marked then the detection software will evaluate the option that has a higher degree of blackness as correction. In case they are equally marked, the detection software returns an empty field (no answer).

The Hogrefe Scoring App is free—you only pay for the scoring of your answer sheets. Please note that answer sheets are sold separately.
