With the SDMT you can detect cognitive impairment in less than 5 minutes. This economical test is an ideal way to screen for organic cerebral dysfunction in both children and adults. The SDMT is useful in working with: Head Injuries, Brain Tumors, Reading Difficulties, Learning Difficulties, Alzheimer's Disease, Aphasia, Alcoholism. Because examinees can give written or spoken responses, the test can also be used with individuals with handicaps or speech disorders. And because it involves only geometric figures and numbers, the SDMT is relatively culture free as well, and can be administered to people who do not speak English.
